On 30 July 2024, at approximately 05:45 IST, a landslide occurred in Vilangad, Vanimal Grama Panchayat, Kozhikode district in the Indian state of Kerala. [1] The landslide was caused by heavy rains, and resulted in at least one death. [2] [3]
The Vilangad landslide was similar to the one in Wayanad landslide. Landslides occurred nine times. Thirteen houses were completely destroyed, and many houses were partially destroyed or flooded. The accident occurred around 5.45 pm when debris including stones and soil fell down. According to a preliminary report by a team from the Geological Survey of India, the landslide was caused by heavy rains. [4] [5]
Many groups were involved in relief efforts, including the Indian Army and Navy, the National Disaster Response Force, the State Disaster Response Force of Kerala, the Kerala Police and WG Volunteers participated in rescue operations. [7] [8] [9]
