Shameema Dev Azad (also Shameem, born 25 May 1955) is an Indian singer from Jammu and Kashmir. [5] She is married to Ghulam Nabi Azad, former Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir.
She is known for her melodious voice, she was honoured with India's fourth highest civilian award the Padma Shri by Government of India in 2005. [3] [6] She received Kalpana Chawla Excellence Award in 2007. [4] She was also awarded by the Government of Jammu and Kashmir on the Republic Day of 2010 in the field of performing arts. [7]
Shameema is one of the eight children of Muhammad Abdullah Dev. She has six brothers. She is married to Ghulam Nabi Azad since 1980. [8] [9]
The Jammu and Kashmir National Conference (JKNC) is a regional political party in Indian-administered Jammu and Kashmir union territory and Ladakh. Founded as the All Jammu and Kashmir Muslim Conference by Sheikh Abdullah and Chaudhry Ghulam Abbas in 1932 in the princely state of Jammu and Kashmir, the organisation renamed itself to National Conference in 1939 in order to represent all the people of the state. It supported the accession of the princely state to India in 1947. Prior to that, in 1941, a group led by Ghulam Abbas broke off from the National Conference and revived the old Muslim Conference. The revived Muslim Conference supported the accession of the princely state to Pakistan and led the movement for Azad Kashmir.

He also served as the Chief Minister of erstwhile state of Jammu and Kashmir from 2005 to 2008. On 26 September 2022, Azad announced his own political party as Democratic Progressive Azad Party. He is the chief patron cum founder of Democratic Progressive Azad Party.

Ghulam Mohammad Shah or G. M. Shah or Gul Shah was an Indian politician who was Chief Minister of the state of Jammu and Kashmir from 2 July 1984 to 6 March 1986. He succeeded his brother-in-law Farooq Abdullah. Shah's father-in-law was Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah, the founder of the Jammu and Kashmir National Conference, of which Shah was once a senior member. Shah died on 6 January 2009 at the Sher-e-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences in Srinagar. He was 88.

Jammu and Kashmir State Land Act, 2001 commonly known as Roshni Act was promulgated during chief ministership of Farooq Abdullah in 2001. The law granted ownership of Jammu and Kashmir state lands to unauthorised occupants of those lands with the aim of raising money for power projects upon payment of a sum to be determined by the government of Jammu and Kashmir. The cut-off year was set as 1990 by the government of Farooq Abdullah, which was extended to 2004 and again to 2007 by the PDP-Congress led government. The act got the unofficial name of "Roshni Act" from the Jammu and Kashmir government's said plan of using the funds raised from this to fund power projects in the state.
