All eight seats in the United States House of Representatives are up for election in 2010. All eight incumbents will be seeking re-election.
Minnesota's two senators are not up for election in 2010.
Statewide offices in Minnesota, including Governor, Lieutenant Governor, Secretary of State, Attorney General, and Auditor are up for election in 2010.
Incumbent Gov. Tim Pawlenty, a Republican, is retiring from office after two terms. Candidates seeking to replace Pawlenty include State Rep. Tom Emmer, R-Delano; ; Former Sen. Mark Dayton, DFL-Minnesota; and activist Tom Horner for the Independence Party.
Incumbent DFL Secretary of State Mark Ritchie is seeking re-election after an eventful first term in office, in which he oversaw the very tight election and subsequent recount in the 2008 U.S. Senate race between Al Franken and Norm Coleman.
Ritchie is being challenged by State Rep. Dan Severson, R-Sauk Rapids, who has been challenged for attempting to be listed on the ballot as Dan "Doc" Severson, in an apparent attempt to tie himself to former Tonight Show bandleader Doc Severinsen. [1] Also running is Independence Party candidate Jual Carlson.
Incumbent DFL Attorney General Lori Swanson is seeking re-election after her first term in office. She is being challenged by Republican attorney and psychologist R. Christopher Barden and Independence Party candidate Bill Dahn. [2]
Incumbent DFL State Auditor Rebecca Otto is seeking re-election after her first term in office. She is being challenged by former Republican State Auditor Patricia Anderson, who lost her position to Otto in 2006. [3]
All 67 seats in the Minnesota Senate are up for election in 2010. The DFL currently holds 46 seats in the body, compared with 21 for the Republicans. Republicans have not held control of the body since the end of the nonpartisan legislative era in 1973.
All 134 seats in the Minnesota House of Representatives are up for election in 2010. The DFL currently holds 87 seats in the body, compared to 47 for the GOP. Republicans most recently held the House from 1999 through 2007.

The Republican Party of Minnesota is the state affiliate of the Republican Party in Minnesota and the oldest active political party in the state, being founded in 1855. The party controls four of Minnesota's eight congressional House seats. The last Republican governor of the state was Tim Pawlenty, who served from 2003 to 2011. The party's headquarter is located in Edina, Minnesota and the current chairman is David Hann.

Incumbent Tim Pawlenty was endorsed by the state Republican convention on June 2, 2006, while the state Democratic–Farmer–Labor convention endorsed Mike Hatch on June 10, 2006. The party primaries took place on September 12, 2006, with Hatch defeating DFL challengers Becky Lourey and Ole Savior and incumbent Pawlenty defeating Sue Jeffers. In the November 7 general election, Pawlenty received a plurality of the votes, defeating Hatch by a margin of 1%. As a result, this election was the closest race of the 2006 gubernatorial election cycle.
The 2002 Minnesota gubernatorial election took place on November 5, 2002 for the post of Governor of Minnesota. Republican candidate Tim Pawlenty defeated Democratic candidate Roger Moe and Independence Party of Minnesota candidate Tim Penny. Due to personal reasons regarding the health of his spouse, incumbent Governor Jesse Ventura chose not to seek re-election. Pawlenty comfortably won the election, which was attributed in part to Moe's uninspired campaign, with Moe being dubbed a "cautious dullard" four years later by the City Pages.
Patricia "Patti" Anderson is an American politician serving in the Minnesota House of Representatives since 2023. A member of the Republican Party of Minnesota, Anderson represents District 33A in the northeastern Twin Cities metropolitan area, which includes the cities of Forest Lake, Hugo, and Mahtomedi and parts of Washington County.
The 2008 United States Senate election in Minnesota took place on November 4, 2008. After a legal battle lasting over eight months, the Democratic–Farmer–Labor Party (DFL) candidate, Al Franken, defeated Republican incumbent Norm Coleman in one of the closest elections in the history of the Senate, with Coleman's Senate predecessor Dean Barkley taking third place. Franken took his oath of office on July 7, 2009, more than half a year after the end of Coleman's term on January 3, 2009.

Daniel Mark "Doc" Severson is an American Republican politician. He is a former member of the Minnesota House of Representatives who represented District 14A, which includes portions of Benton and Stearns counties in the north central part of the state. He is a retired U.S. Navy fighter pilot, business owner, and substitute teacher. As of 2022, Severson is a current candidate for the District 4 School Board Member of the Lee County School District in Florida.

The Democratic nominee was congressman Tim Walz from Minnesota's 1st congressional district while the Republicans nominated Hennepin County commissioner Jeff Johnson. The Independence Party of Minnesota didn't field a candidate for the first time since 1994. Going into the election the polls showed Walz ahead and the race was characterized as lean or likely DFL.
