Avadi City Municipal Corporation is the civic body governing the City of Avadi, in Chennai Metropolitan Area in the Tiruvallur district of Tamil Nadu, India. Avadi City Municipal Corporation has 48 wards with a population of 6.1 lakh spreads over 65 sqkm. It is headed by a executive mayor and governed by a commissioner. It is one of the four municipal corporations within the Chennai Metropolitan Area, the other three being the central Greater Chennai Corporation,the satellite Tambaram City Municipal Corporation and the Kancheepuram City Municipal Corporation
Municipal Corporation mechanism in India was introduced during British Rule with formation of municipal corporation in Madras (Chennai) in 1688, later followed by municipal corporations in Bombay (Mumbai) and Calcutta (Kolkata) by 1762. [4]
Avadi Municipal Corporation in Tiruvallur district was formed in year 2019 [5] and is 15th municipal corporation in Tamil Nadu. [6] [7] [8] Avadi Municipal Corporation has 48 wards with a population of 6.1 lakhs spread in 65 km2. [9] The place is driven industrially with location of many key industries.
Avadi Municipal Corporation a Commissioner Mayor, a Council, a Standing Committee, a Wards Committee for facilitating various works. [10]

The newly established Avadi Corporation will include the 48 wards of the existing Avadi Municipality and its adjoining Thirumullaivoyal, Kovilpathagai, Mittanamalli, Pattabiram, Paruthipattu and Housing Board residential areas.[ citation needed ]
Thiruverkadu, Poonamallee and Thiruninravur was proposed to join in Avadi Corporation. In the future, there is a possibility of merging some areas in the local bodies like Thiruverkadu, Poonamallee, Thiruninravur, Thirumazhisai, Vanagaram, Nemilicherry, Veppampattu, Ayathur, and Nazarathpet with the Avadi Corporation after consulting the people.[ citation needed ]

Zone 1 comprises 12 wards. Wards numbered 1 to 5, 11, 12, 15 - 19 are included in this zone.
Zone 2 comprises 12 wards. Wards numbered 6 to 10, 25 - 30, 32 are included in this zone.
Zone 3 comprises 12 wards. Wards numbered 31, 33 to 35, 40 to 44, 46 to 48 are included in this zone.
Zone 4 comprises 12 wards. Wards numbered 13, 14, 20 to 24, 36 to 39, 45 are included in this zone.

Avadi is a western suburb of Chennai, and the headquarters of Avadi taluk located within the Thiruvallur district of Tamil Nadu, India. Situated at about 22 kilometres (14 mi) from Chennai Central Railway Station, it is one of the four municipal corporations in the Chennai Metropolitan Area and is governed by the Avadi Municipal Corporation. It is surrounded by major defence establishments and is home to various universities and engineering colleges. The neighborhood is served by Avadi Railway Station of the Chennai Suburban Railway. As of 2011, Avadi had a population of 345,996, which is 10th most populous place in Tamil Nadu. It is home to the Heavy Vehicles Factory (HVF), Ordnance Factory Board (ODF) which houses Engine Factory and Combat Vehicles Research and Development Establishment (CVRDE). The lake in Avadi was known as Paaleripattu, which is now found only in very old land documents.
