Chennai Central Metro, officially known as Puratchi Thalaivar Dr. M.G. Ramachandran Central metro station, is an underground metro station on the North-South Corridor of the Blue Line and Green Line of Chennai Metro in Chennai, India. [2] [3] Central metro station is spread over an area of 30,000 square metres (320,000 sq ft). [2] On 31 July 2020, It has been named by Government of Tamil Nadu as Puratchi Thalaivar Dr. M.G. Ramachandran Central Metro to honor the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam founder and the former Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu M. G. Ramachandran. [4]
The station is an underground, two-level station [5] on Poonamallee High Road in front of the Chennai Central railway station and the Ripon Building. The station is one of the two metro stations where Corridor I (Airport–Wimco Nagar) of the project will intersect with Corridor II (Chennai Central Metro–St Thomas Mount via Egmore and CMBT Metro), the other being the Alandur metro station. The metro station, being constructed at a depth of 28 m (92 ft), will be the largest of all metro stations in the city with an area of over 30,000 m2 (320,000 sq ft). [2] The three-level metro station will cover a length of 410 metres and will have a width of 35 metres. [3] Unlike the other metro stations which have four entry points, the Chennai Central Railway Station will have six entry/exit points for access to Park suburban and Park Town MRTS stations, Ripon Building, Rajiv Gandhi Government General Hospital, and Chennai Central railway station. [6] [7] The station will act as a transit point for passengers from the Chennai Central railway station, Park Town, and Park railway stations. [8] It is estimated that more than 100,000 commuters will use the station daily. [9]
The station is one of the few in the corridor that will have parking facilities. [10] Space will be allocated for parking in a basement area for about 500 cars and 1,000 two-wheelers. There are also plans to have the airport check-in facility in one of the basement levels at the station, which will allow air passengers to complete the check-in procedures at the station itself. [11] A bus bay has also been planned opposite the station. [12]
The station is one of the three stations in the Chennai Metro Rail network that will have 230-kV receiving sub-stations for power supply from the state's electricity grid. The other two are Koyambedu and Arignar Anna Alandur Metro. [13]
The station was opened on 25 May 2018. [3] As of December 2019, the station had a daily footfall of about 9,500 passengers, [1] up from about 7,700 in February 2019, [14] making it the second busiest metro station in the city after Thirumangalam.

The Chennai Corporation has plans to develop a park over the Chennai Central Metro. Chennai Metro Rail Limited has agreed to a proposal by the Chennai Corporation of extending the Ripon Buildings Park over the Chennai Central underground metro station. Waterproof structures will be created over the station to facilitate the creation of the park. A portion of the park, which will cover more than six acres of the premises of Ripon Buildings and Victoria Public Hall, will be developed on a waterproof concrete slab area, measuring 210 metres by 10 metres. Visitors to the Ripon Buildings Park, Amma Maaligai and Victoria Public Hall will have access to the Chennai Central Metro through some of its seven entry points. [3]

Chennai Mofussil Bus Terminus, officially Puratchi Thalaivar Dr. M.G.R. Bus Terminus, is a bus terminus located in Chennai, India, providing inter-state bus transport services. It is located on the 100 feet (30 m) Jawaharlal Nehru Salai in Koyambedu between SAF Games Village and the Koyambedu Vegetable Market. It is the second largest bus terminus in India as well as Asia. Chennai Metro Rail has operated a coach depot behind the bus terminus since 2015.
Chennai Egmore, formerly known as Madras Egmore, also known as Chennai Elumbur, is a railway station in Chennai, Tamil Nadu, India. Situated in the neighborhood of Egmore, it is one of the four intercity railway terminals in the city; the other three are Chennai Central railway station, Tambaram railway station and Chennai Beach railway station. The station was built in 1906–1908 as the terminus of the South Indian Railway Company. The building built in Gothic style is one of the prominent landmarks of Chennai. The main entrance to the station is situated on Gandhi-Irwin Road and the rear entrance on Poonamallee High Road.

Broadway Bus Terminus is the largest city bus terminus of the Metropolitan Transport Corporation (Chennai), Chennai, Tamil Nadu, India. It is located in the downtown area of the city, viz. Chennai International Airport is an elevated southern terminal metro station on the North-South Corridor of the Blue Line of Chennai Metro in Chennai, India. This station serves the Chennai International Airport and the neighbourhoods of Meenambakkam, Tirusulam, Pallavaram, Pammal and Chromepet. The station is the only elevated airport metro station in India. The other airport metro stations in the country such as those in Delhi, Lucknow, Mumbai and the proposed ones at Bangalore and Hyderabad are underground. The station enables rapid transit connectivity with the airport, making Chennai the second city in India after Delhi to achieve this.
Arignar Anna Alandur Metro, commonly known as the Alandur Metro, is an elevated metro station that is part of the Blue Line and the Green Line of the Chennai Metro, and serves as an interchange station between the two lines. The station is one of the two metro stations where the two lines intersect, the other being the Chennai Central metro station. It is the city's first multi-level railway station. It is the only station where passengers from the two corridors can swap the direction of travel. On 31 July 2020, It has been named by Government of Tamil Nadu as Arignar Anna Alandur Metro to honor the DMK founder and the former Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu C. N. Annadurai.
Koyambedu is an important elevated metro station on the South-East Corridor of the Green Line of Chennai Metro in Chennai, India. This station will serve the neighbourhoods of Koyambedu, Koyambedu vegetable market, and Koyambedu Private Bus Terminus.

Jayalalithaa CMBT Metro, is an important elevated metro station on the South-East Corridor of the Green Line of Chennai Metro in Chennai, India, which will chiefly serve the Chennai Mofussil Bus Terminus in front of the main facade. On 31 July 2020, It has been named by Government of Tamil Nadu as Puratchi Thalaivi Dr. J. Jayalalithaa CMBT Metro to honor the former Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu J. Jayalalithaa, who inaugurated the Puratchi Thalaivar Dr. M.G.R Bus Terminus, Asia's biggest bus terminus and the metro station.
The Central Square is a city square and major intersection in Chennai. Areas surrounding the Ripon Building, Victoria Public Hall, Moore Market Complex, Chennai Central Railway Station, the Southern Railway Headquarters and the Government General Hospital are being developed as part of the Central Square. The total site area is estimated to be about 37,800 square meters, and the development is estimated to cost about ₹4 billion (US$50 million) and will be funded by the CMDA.
AG – DMS is an underground metro station on the North-South Corridor of the Blue Line of Chennai Metro in Chennai, India. This station serves the neighbourhoods of Teynampet and T. Nagar.
Madhavaram Mofussil Bus Terminus is a bus terminus in Chennai, India, located in the neighbourhood of Madhavaram, providing outstation/inter-state transport services. Spread over an area of 8 acres (32,000 m2), it was built to decongest the Chennai Mofussil Bus Terminus in Koyambedu. It will chiefly handle buses to Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, including cities such as Chittoor, Tirupati, Nellore, Vijayawada, Kurnool, Puttaparthi, Visakhapatnam, Bhadrachalam, and Hyderabad. As of 2018, the number of passengers travelling from Chennai to these two states daily average 12,500. The Tamil Nadu and Andhra governments operate about 315 services daily, which increases during weekends.
Kilambakkam Bus Terminus, officially Kalaignar Centenary Bus Terminus, is a bus terminus in Kilambakkam, Urapakkam along GST Road on the outskirts of Chennai for catering to the bus services towards the Southern districts of Tamil Nadu. It became operational on 30 December 2023. Spread over an area of 88.52 acres (358,200 m2), it is built to decongest the Chennai Mofussil Bus Terminus in Koyambedu. It will chiefly handle buses to southern Tamil Nadu, including cities such as Dindigul, Kanniyakumari, Madurai, Thoothukudi, Tiruchirappalli, Tirunelveli, Cuddalore, Pondicherry, Sengottai, Kumbakonam and Thanjavur. It is an integrated bus terminus of mofussil buses operated by TNSTC, SETC KSRTC SWIFT and contractual (omni) buses. It will be connected to other parts of the Chennai Metropolitan Area and suburbs by MTC buses. Once the construction is completed this one will be Asia's biggest Bus Station.
The Red Line or Line 5 is one of the three lines of Chennai Metro, Phase 2 Project. The under construction line stretches from Madhavaram Milk Colony to Sholinganallur. The line will consist of 45 stations, out of which 6 are underground, 1 at grade and 38 are elevated. The government has announced feasibility studies to extend metro rail's corridor-5 from Koyambedu to Avadi via Thirumangalam, Mogappair and Ambattur. At present, the proposed corridor-5 links Madhavaram with Sholinganallur via Koyambedu, Alandur and Madipakkam.
