Arcot Road (also known as N. S. Krishnan Salai) (SH-113) is one of the main arterial roads of the city of Chennai in Tamil Nadu, India. It runs for 12 kilometres and connects Nungambakkam with Porur. The road was constructed during the early 1940s and has been responsible for the development of the outlying areas on the western fringes of Chennai city. [1]
A span of 6 kilometres of the Arcot Road is located within the Chennai district and the remaining 6 kilometres are located in the Poonamallee taluk of Thiruvallur district.
The Chennai Metro Rail Limited, along with the Highways Department planned to build a 400-metre long flyover along Inner Ring Road, Chennai at the junction of Arcot Road in Vadapalani on either side of the metro viaduct. [2] [3] [4]
The Highways Department is building another flyover at the junction of Arcot Road with Mount-Poonamallee Road near Porur. [5]
Virugambakkam is a residential neighbourhood of Chennai, Tamil Nadu, India. It is an important residential area of and is famous for its schools, market, residential colonies and residences of film artists. Virugambakkam had some of Chennai's oldest film studios.
Anna Flyover, also known as Gemini Flyover, is a dual-armed grade separator in the central business district of Chennai, India. Built in 1973 and dubbed one of the top-rated flyovers in the country, it is Asia's First Grade Separator, the first flyover in Chennai and the third Flyover in India, after the ones at Kemps Corner and Marine Drive in Mumbai. It was the longest flyover in the country when it was built. Its main purpose is to allow traffic movement on Mount Road—now renamed Anna Salai—near Nungambakkam High Road to continue unhindered by the cross traffic. The presence of the Gemini Studios, which was demolished later, resulted in the flyover coming to be known as Gemini Flyover and the area being referred to as the Gemini Circle.
The Chennai Metro is a rapid transit system serving the city of Chennai, Tamil Nadu, India. It is the 2nd longest metro system in India. The system commenced service in 2015 after partially opening the first phase of the project. The network consists of two colour-coded lines covering a length of 70 kilometres (43 mi). The Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL), a joint venture between Government of India and the Government of Tamil Nadu built and operates the Chennai Metro. The system has a mix of underground and elevated stations and uses standard gauge. The services operate daily between 3:00 and 24:00 with a varying frequency of 2 to 8 minutes.
Vadapalani is a neighbourhood in the city of Chennai in Tamil Nadu, India. It is known for its film studios and the Vadapalani Andavar Temple, which is an important pilgrimage centre. Situated in the western part of Chennai, Vadapalani is an important bus terminus on Arcot Road. Vadapalani is one of the busiest and densely populated areas in Chennai.

Anna Salai, formerly known as St. Thomas Mount Road or simply Mount Road, is an arterial road in Chennai, India. It starts at the Cooum Creek, south of Fort St George, leading in a south-westerly direction towards St. Thomas Mount, and ends at the Kathipara Junction in Guindy. Beyond the Kathipara Junction, a branch road arises traversing westwards to Poonamallee to form the Mount-Poonamallee Road while the main branch continuing southwards to Chennai Airport, Tambaram and beyond to form Grand Southern Trunk Road. Anna Salai, which is more than 400 years old, is acknowledged as the most important road in Chennai city. The head offices of many commercial enterprises and public buildings are located along Anna Salai. It is the second longest road in Chennai, after EVR Periyar Salai.
Chennai Monorail was a proposal for a number of lines as part of mass transit system for the Indian city of Chennai. Originally the city planned to use monorail on all lines but many were subsequently changed to railways as part of the Chennai Metro.
St. Thomas Mount-Poonamallee Road, popularly known as the Mount-Poonamallee Road (SH-55), is an arterial road in the city of Chennai, India. It runs for 11 kilometres from Kathipara Junction to the NH 4 highway connecting St. Thomas Mount with the suburb of Poonamallee. About 5 kilometres of the Mount-Poonamallee Road is located in the Alandur taluk of Chennai district, part of Maduravoyal Taluk in Chennai district and the remainder in the Poonamallee taluk of Thiruvallur district.

The Alandur taluk, earlier a part of Kanchipuram district has now been annexed to the Chennai District. It forms a suburb of Chennai city.
Koyambedu Wholesale Market Complex (KWMC) is one of Asia's largest perishable goods market complex located at Koyambedu, Chennai. The market complex is spread over an area of 295 acres (1.19 km2). Inaugurated in 1996, the complex consists of about 3,100 shops, including more than 1,000 wholesale shops and 2,000 retail shops. Of these, 850 are fruit shops. It abuts the Poonamallee High Road and Nesapakkam Road. In Phase I, a wholesale market for perishables was developed in an area of around 70 acres (280,000 m2) by constructing 3,194 shops. The market has two blocks for vegetable shops and one each for fruit and flower shops. In Phase II, a textile market and in Phase III, a food grain market have been planned to be developed in the complex.
Koyambedu Metro station is a Metro railway station on the Line 2 of the Chennai Metro, which is one terminal of the current open metro line from St Thomas Mount. The station is among the elevated stations along corridor II of the Chennai Metro, Chennai Central–St. Thomas Mount stretch. The station will serve the neighbourhoods of Koyambedu, Koyambedu vegetable market, and Koyambedu Private Bus Terminus.
EVR Periyar Salai (EVR High Road), earlier known as Poonamallee High Road(NH 48) and originally the Grand Western Trunk Road, is an arterial road in Chennai, India. It is the longest road in Chennai. Running from east to west, the 14-kilometre (8.7 mi) road starts at Muthuswamy Bridge near Madras Medical College at Park Town and ends near Maduravoyal Junction via Kilpauk, Aminjikarai, Anna Nagar Arch, Arumbakkam, Koyambedu. It further continues west towards Poonamallee and traverses Sriperumbudur, Walajapet, and Ranipet.
Vadapalani Metro station is a Metro railway station on the Line 2 of the Chennai Metro, which is currently under operation. The station is among the elevated stations along corridor II of the Chennai Metro, Chennai Central–St. Thomas Mount stretch. The station serves the neighbourhoods of Vadapalani and Kodambakkam.
Chennai is home to the second largest vehicular population in India, behind New Delhi. The total road network in the city's metropolitan area is 2,780 km. With Chennai's vehicular population having experienced a surge in the late 1990s, several flyovers were built to reduce the traffic congestion in the city. Of about ₹ 15,600 million invested by the state government between 2005 and 2016, Chennai cornered a major chunk of the investment. As of 2016, there were 42 functional flyovers in the city and about 30 bridges, catering to the city's vehicular population of about 12 million, including about 600,000 cars. In addition, more than 36 flyovers are in the pipeline.

The Purple Line or Line 3 is one of the three lines of Chennai Metro, Phase 2 Project. The under construction line stretches from Madhavaram Milk Colony to Siruseri Sipcot 2. The line will consist of 50 stations, out of which 30 are underground and 20 are elevated.
The Orange Line or Line 4 is one of the three lines of Chennai Metro, Phase 2 Project. The under construction line stretches from Light House to Poonamallee Bypass. The line will consist of 30 stations, out of which 12 are underground and 18 are elevated.
The Red Line or Line 5 is one of the three lines of Chennai Metro, Phase 2 Project. The under construction line stretches from Madhavaram Milk Colony to Sholinganallur. The line will consist of 48 stations, out of which 6 are underground, 1 at grade and 41 are elevated. The government has announced feasibility studies to extend metro rail's corridor-5 from Koyambedu to Avadi via Thirumangalam, Mogappair and Ambattur. At present, the proposed corridor-5 links Madhavaram with Sholinganallur via Koyambedu, Alandur and Madipakkam.
