The Diocese of Caguas (Latin : Dioecesis Caguana) is a Latin Church ecclesiastical territory, or diocese, of the Catholic Church in southeastern Puerto Rico in the United States. It is a suffragan diocese in the ecclesiastical province of the metropolitan Archdiocese of San Juan de Puerto Rico

The mother church of the Diocese of Caguas is the Catedral Dulce Nombre de Jesús (Cathedral of the Sweet Name of Jesus) in Caguas. As of 2023, the current bishop of Cagus is Eusebio Ramos Morales. The diocese was erected on November 4, 1964

San Juan Archdiocese bankruptcy

On 7 September 2018, Judge Edward Godoy ruled that the bankruptcy filed by the Archdiocese of San Juan would also apply to every Catholic diocese in Puerto Rico, including Caguas, and that all would now have their assets protected under Chapter 11. [2] [3]

Cathedral Dulce Nombre de Jesús, or in English, Sweet Name of Jesus Cathedral, is a cathedral of the Catholic Church in Caguas, Puerto Rico. It is located on the Plaza Palmer in the center of town, and next to the Colegio Católico Notre Dame Elementary. There are only five cathedrals in Puerto Rico and Cathedral Dulce Nombre de Jesús is the seat of the Diocese of Caguas. The patron saint of the church, as well as that of the city, is the Dulce Nombre de Jesús.

In 1960, the diocese of San Juan was raised to an archdiocese, and is currently the suffragan see of the five other dioceses on the island: Ponce, Arecibo, Caguas, Mayagüez, and Fajardo–Humacao.

Enrique Manuel Hernández Rivera is a Puerto Rican born American prelate of the Roman Catholic Church. He served as bishop of the Diocese of Caguas in Puerto Rico from 1981 to 1998. He previously serve as an auxiliary bishop of the Archdiocese of San Juan in Puerto Rico from 1979 to 1981.
