Qalat District is a district of Zabul Province in southern Afghanistan. Its district seat is Qalat, the capital of the province. [1]

It has a population of about 34,300 as of 2013. [1] The district is mostly populated by the Hotak tribe of Ghilji Pashtuns. [2]

Qalat, sometimes spelled as Kalat, and historically referred to as Qalāti Khaljī or Qalat-i Ghilzai, is a city in southern Afghanistan that serves as the capital of Zabul Province. It is linked by Highway 1 with Kandahar to the southwest and Ghazni to the northeast. The city had 5,462 dwellings in 2014, with an estimated population of approximately 49,158 people. Qalat is divided by at least 4 police districts (nahias) with land area of 4,820 hectares.

Provincial Reconstruction Team Zabul was a civil-military unit tasked to assist the government of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan deliver government and security in the southern province of Zabul. Along with the military component, the PRT also includes civilians from the Dept. of State, USAID and Dept. of Agriculture. The team had approximately 100 personnel. The commander for PRT Zabul was an Air Force Lieutenant Colonel, but shared mission planning with the Dept. of State senior official in the province. The team was composed of half Army Soldiers and half Air Force Airmen. Soldiers served as the security force, civil affairs teams and other staff positions like Director of Operations and Logistics Officer. Airmen on the team served in multiple capacities including command post, engineering, intelligence, public affairs/information operations, services, vehicle maintenance, logistics, personnel, perimeter security advisors and personal security detail.

Kakar District, , also Khak-e Afghan is a district of Zabul province in southern Afghanistan. It has a population of about 23,400 as of 2013. The majority of the population belong from Kakar tribes and the other tribes of the district are Khowazak, Kharoti and Hatwal. The district is very famous by their Agriculture especially dry fruits and hospitality. This is the second educated district of Zabul province. The most influential persons of Zabul province like member of Parliament Sardar Khodai Dad Khan, Sardar Karim Dad Khan, The tribe chief is Sardar Muhammad Anwar khan kaka the writer and poet Izatullah Kakar, Ishaq Akhondzada, the president of Zabul University Rahmatullah Kakar are belong to this district.

Naw Bahar District is a district of Zabul province in southern Afghanistan.

Qalat Airport is located less than 2.5 miles north from the center of Qalat, which is the capital of Zabul Province in Afghanistan. It is currently an air base used exclusively by members of the country's Ministry of Defense. Security in and around the airport is provided by the Afghan National Security Forces.

Tori Dam is an under-construction gravity dam located near Qalat District of Zabul Province in southern Afghanistan. According to the Ministry of Energy and Water, most of the major work on the project has been completed. Construction of the dam was estimated to cost around 97 million afghanis.
