Maydan Shahr is a district in the east of Wardak Province, Afghanistan. Its population was estimated at 121,531 in 2002, consisting of about 85% Pashtuns and 14% Tajiks, with a few Hazara families. The district centre is Maydan Shahr.

Afghan Civil War (1928–1929)

The Afghan Civil War was fought from 14 November 1928 to 13 October 1929. Rebelling, and subsequently governing Saqqawist forces under Habibullāh Kalakāni fought against various opposing tribes and rival monarchs in the Kingdom of Afghanistan, among whom Mohammed Nādir Khān eventually achieved a preponderant role. Despite early successes, such as the capture of Kabul and defeat of Amanullah Khan on 17 January 1929 or the capture of Kandahar on 3 June, the Saqqawists were eventually deposed by anti-Saqqawist forces led by Nadir on 13 October 1929, leading to Nadir's ascension as King of Afghanistan, who ruled until his assassination on 3 November 1933.

It is divided into eight districts and has a population of approximately 671,817. The capital of the province is Maidan Shar, while the most populous district in the province is Saydabad District. The name of the province is called "Wardak" as stated by the Afghan constitution and IDLG approved documents.

Maidan is an originally Persian میدان word for a town square or public gathering place, borrowed into various other languages: Urdu میدان (maidān); Arabic مَيْدَان (maydān); Turkish meydan and Crimean Tatar, from which Ukrainian also borrowed maidan. Its ultimate source is Proto-Indo-European *médʰyos - compare Avestan maiδya, Sanskrit मध्य and Latin medius. Various versions include maydan, midan, meydan, majdan, mayadeen and maydān.

Badakhshan Province Province of Afghanistan

Badakhshan Province, Badaxšān) is one of the 34 provinces of Afghanistan, located in the farthest north-eastern part of the country between Tajikistan and Pakistan's Gilgit-Baltistan region. It shares a 56.5-mile (91 km) border with China.

This is a list of districts of Afghanistan, known as wuleswali. These are secondary level administrative units, one level below the provinces. The Afghan government issued its first district map in 1973. It recognized 325 districts, counting wuleswalis (districts), alaqadaries (sub-districts), and markaz-e-wulaiyat. In the ensuing years additional districts have been added through splits, and a few eliminated through mergers. In June 2005, the Afghan government issued a map of 398 districts. It was widely adopted as by many information management systems, though usually with the addition of Sharak-e-Hayratan for a 399 district total. It remains the de facto standard, as of late 2018, despite a string of government announcements of the creation of new districts.

Maidan Shar, also Maidan Shahr or simply Maidan, is the capital of Wardak Province in central Afghanistan. Its population was estimated to be 35,008 in 2003, of which 85% are Pashtuns, and a smaller number of Hazaras and Tajiks forming the rest.

Shahr-e Sukhteh, also spelled as Shahr-e Sūkhté and Shahr-i Sōkhta, is an archaeological site of a sizable Bronze Age urban settlement, associated with the Helmand culture. It is located in Sistan and Baluchistan Province, the southeastern part of Iran, on the bank of the Helmand River, near the Zahedan-Zabol road. Bak District

Bäk District is situated in the northern part of Khost Province, Afghanistan. It borders Tere Zayi District to the south, Sabari District to the west, Zazi Maydan District to the north, and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa in Pakistan to the east. According to Afghanistan's National Statistics and Information Authority (NSIA), the 2020 estimated population of the district was 24,977 people. The district center is the village of Bäk, located in the southern part close to the border with Tere Zayi District.

Afghan Border Force

The Afghan Border Police (ABP) secure Afghanistan's 5,529 kilometres (3,436 mi) border with neighboring countries and all its international airports. It also administers immigration services such as checking documents of foreigners entering the country or deporting them. The ABP's anti-narcotic efforts are a prominent concern to the international community at present. The ABP and other divisions of the Afghan National Police jointly patrol a 55 km-wide corridor along the entirety of Afghanistan's border, particularly the longest and porous Durand Line border in the southeast with neighboring Pakistan.

Shahr-e Naw Place in Kabul, Afghanistan

Shahr-e Naw, also spelled Share Naw, Share Now or Shari Naw, is a neighborhood in north-west Kabul, Afghanistan, mostly part of administrative District 4. It is a major downtown commercial area housing most of the big supermarkets of Kabul, along with foreign offices, hotels and banks. To its west lies the Salang Watt Road, and to its east is the Wazir Akbar Khan district. Its name translates to New City, which is taken as it was first built in the early 20th century as a 'new' urban extension north of the historic city of Kabul.

Zarifa Ghafari Afghan mayor and entrepreneur

Zarifa Ghafari is an Afghan advocate, activist, politician and entrepreneur. She is the current mayor of Maidan Shahr, capital city of the Wardak Province, Afghanistan. Zarifa is one of the few Afghanistani female mayors, and also is the youngest to be appointed at the age of 26. She is known for her efforts in empowering women's rights in Afghanistan. Zarifa was chosen as an International Woman of Courage in 2020 by the US Secretary of State.
