Elfazepam [1] is a drug which is a benzodiazepine derivative. [2] Presumably it has sedative and anxiolytic actions like those of other benzodiazepines.
Orexigenic properties in animals. [3] [4] The mechanism for increasing feed intake is not clear and has been subject of investigation. [5] It has been found that elfazepam suppresses gastric acid secretion. [6]
Benzophenone derivative 1 is reacted with a glycine equivalent masked as an oxazolidine-2,5-dione 2 to give the final product 3 Elfazepam.
Hexobarbital or hexobarbitone, sold both in acid and sodium salt forms as Citopan, Evipan, and Tobinal, is a barbiturate derivative having hypnotic and sedative effects. It was used in the 1940s and 1950s as an agent for inducing anesthesia for surgery, as well as a rapid-acting, short-lasting hypnotic for general use, and has a relatively fast onset of effects and short duration of action. It was also used to murder women prisoners at Ravensbruck Concentration Camp. Modern barbiturates have largely supplanted the use of hexobarbital as an anesthetic, as they allow for better control of the depth of anesthesia. Hexobarbital is still used in some scientific research.
DMCM (methyl-6,7-dimethoxy-4-ethyl-beta-carboline-3-carboxylate) is a drug from the beta-carboline family. It acts as a negative allosteric modulator of GABAA receptors, meaning that it causes the opposite effects to the benzodiazepine class of drugs. As such, DMCM has anxiogenic and convulsant properties, and is used in scientific research to induce anxiety so that new anxiolytic medications can be tested, and to produce convulsions so that anticonvulsant medications can be tested. It has also been shown to produce analgesic effects in animals, thought to be because it produces panic which reduces the perception of pain.
1,3-Benzodioxolylbutanamine is an entactogenic drug of the phenethylamine chemical class. It is the α-ethyl analog of MDPEA and MDA and the methylenedioxy analogue of α-ethylphenethylamine.
MMDA-2 (2-methoxy-4,5-methylenedioxyamphetamine) is a psychedelic drug of the amphetamine class. It is closely related to MMDA and MDA.
AM-087 (part of the AM cannabinoid series) is an analgesic drug which acts as a cannabinoid agonist. It is a derivative of Δ8-THC, substituted on the 3-position side chain. AM-087 is a potent CB1 agonist with a Ki of 0.43 nM, making it around 100 times more potent than THC itself. This is most likely due to the bulky bromine substituent on the side chain.
Eseroline is a drug which acts as an opioid agonist. It is a metabolite of the acetylcholinesterase inhibitor physostigmine but unlike physostigmine, the acetylcholinesterase inhibition produced by eseroline is weak and easily reversible, and it produces fairly potent analgesic effects mediated through the μ-opioid receptor. This mixture of activities gives eseroline an unusual pharmacological profile, although its uses are limited by side effects such as respiratory depression and neurotoxicity.
Tracazolate (ICI-136,753) is an anxiolytic drug which is used in scientific research. It is a pyrazolopyridine derivative, most closely related to pyrazolopyrimidine drugs such as zaleplon, and is one of a structurally diverse group of drugs known as the nonbenzodiazepines which act at the same receptor targets as benzodiazepines but have distinct chemical structures.
Zacopride is a potent antagonist at the 5-HT3 receptor and an agonist at the 5-HT4 receptor. It has anxiolytic and nootropic effects in animal models, with the (R)-(+)-enantiomer being the more active form. It also has antiemetic and pro-respiratory effects, both reducing sleep apnea and reversing opioid-induced respiratory depression in animal studies. Early animal trials have also revealed that administration of zacopride can reduce preference for and consumption of ethanol.
Norsalsolinol is a chemical compound that is produced naturally in the body through metabolism of dopamine. It has been shown to be a selective dopaminergic neurotoxin, and has been suggested as a possible cause of neurodegenerative conditions such as Parkinson's disease and the brain damage associated with alcoholism, although evidence for a causal relationship is unclear.
ICI-190,622 is an anxiolytic drug used in scientific research. It is a pyrazolopyridine derivative, related to other anxiolytic compounds such as tracazolate, and more distantly to zaleplon. It has similar effects to benzodiazepine drugs, but is structurally distinct and so is classed as a nonbenzodiazepine anxiolytic.
Zometapine (CI-781) is an antidepressant drug which is a pyrazolodiazepine derivative. Its molecular structure closely resembles benzodiazepines and is unrelated to other antidepressant drug classes.
Umespirone (KC-9172) is a drug of the azapirone class which possesses anxiolytic and antipsychotic properties. It behaves as a 5-HT1A receptor partial agonist (Ki = 15 nM), D2 receptor partial agonist (Ki = 23 nM), and α1-adrenoceptor receptor antagonist (Ki = 14 nM), and also has weak affinity for the sigma receptor (Ki = 558 nM). Unlike many other anxiolytics and antipsychotics, umespirone produces minimal sedation, cognitive/memory impairment, catalepsy, and extrapyramidal symptoms.
S-14671 is a naphthylpiperazine derivative which acts as a 5-HT1A receptor agonist (pKi = 9.3) with high efficacy and exceptional in vivo potency, and also as a 5-HT2A and 5-HT2C receptor antagonist (both are pKi = 7.8). It displays only low and non-significant affinity for 5-HT1B and 5-HT3 sites.
Indorenate (TR-3369), is a tryptamine derivative which acts as an agonist at the 5-HT1A, 5-HT1B and 5-HT2C serotonin receptors. It has anxiolytic, antihypertensive and anorectic effects, predominantly through action at 5-HT1A, but with some contribution from the 5-HT1B and 5-HT2C subtypes, and possibly some other non-serotonergic targets also.
Bay R 1531 is a tricyclic tryptamine derivative which acts as a selective serotonin receptor 5-HT1A agonist. It was researched unsuccessfully for the treatment of stroke but remains in use for scientific research.
L-694247 is a somewhat selective 5-HT1D agonist, with a 10-fold greater affinity for the 5-HT1B receptor, and 25-fold greater affinity for the 5-HT1A receptor. When L-694247 was injected intraventricularly in dehydrated rats, it inhibited water intake. Pre-treatment with a 5-HT1D antagonist abolished this effect. Administration of L-694,247 to normally hydrated rats had no effect on water intake.

Pseudoginsenoside F11 is a chemical natural product found in American ginseng but not in Asian ginseng, although it has similar properties to the Asian ginseng compound ginsenoside Rf. The molecule is a triterpenoid saponin member of the dammarane family and contains a four-ring rigid skeleton. Compounds in the ginsenoside family are found almost exclusively in plants of the genus Panax. A wide variety of difficult-to-characterize in vitro effects have been reported for the compounds in isolation. Pseudoginsenoside F11 and its derivatives are sometimes referred to as having an ocotillol-type skeleton structure.
Irazepine is a benzodiazepine derivative containing isothiocyanate functional group. It is a non-competitive benzodiazepine binding site antagonist. Irazepine and other alkylating benzodiazepine, kenazepine, bind to brain benzodiazepine receptors in a non-competitive (covalent) fashion in vitro, and may exert a long-lasting anticonvulsant effect.
