Of the locality's 112.8 square kilometres (43.6 sq mi), 104.9 square kilometres (40.5 sq mi) are in the Toowoomba Region and 7.9 square kilometres (3.1 sq mi) in the south-west of the locality are in the Southern Downs Region. [4]

The locality was named and bounded on 5 March 1999. [1]
