Kollam district , earlier called Quilon district, is one of the 14 districts of Kerala state, India. The district is representative of all the natural attributes of Kerala states, and is endowed with a long coastal region, a major sea port on the Arabian Sea, plains and the mountains, lakes, lagoons and Kerala Backwaters, forests and the farm land, and rivers and streams. The area had mercantile relationship with Phoenicians and the Romans.

The TKM College of Engineering was the first Engineering College in Kollam, Later in 1999 College of Engineering Karunagappally was established it was the first Govt. Engineering College (Second Engineering College) in Kollam (Unit of IHRD, Govt of Kerala ) Later in 2000 -2001 College of Engineering Perumon was established ( Under CAPE, Govt. Of Kerala)

Karunagappally is a municipality in the Kollam district of Kerala, India. It is 24 km north of Kollam and 60 km (37 mi) south of Alappuzha. Karunagappally taluk consists of Alappad, Ochira, Adinad, Karunagappally, Thazhava, Pavumba, Thodiyoor, Kallalibhagom, Thevalakkara, Chavara, Neendakara, Clappana, Kulasekharapuram, Thekkumbhagam, Ayanivelikulangara, Panmana, Ponmana and Vadakumthala. The taluk is bound on the north by Kayamkulam, on the east by Kunnathur taluk, on the south by Kollam and on the west by the Arabian Sea. It is one of the fastest developing towns in Kerala and is part of Kollam metropolitan area.

Vettikkavala is a village located in the Kollam district in the state of Kerala, India. The village is famous for Shiva-Vishnu temples which hosts a special deity called Vathukkal Njaali Kunju. An annual celebration of Pongala is held at the temple. The village is also well known for temple arts and a palace constructed by Sree Moolam Thirunal.

Established in 1999 by the Government of Kerala, it is the second engineering college in Kollam district the fourth engineering college under the aegis of the state government's Institute of Human Resources Development in Electronics. The institute is affiliated to the A P J Abdul Kalam Technological University, Recognized by AICTE and Accredited by National Board of Accreditation(NBA). It is the second engineering College in the Kerala Section to win the prestigious IEEE Region 10(Asia - Pacific) Exemplary Student Branch Award, Only student branch in Asia Pacific Region to win the IEEE MGA Regional Exemplary Student Branch Award twice in a row.

Punthalathazham is a landlocked neighbourhood of the city of Kollam in the Indian state of Kerala. It is located around six kilometres east of the core Kollam (Quilon) city towards Kannanalloor . This place has a little geographical importance and serves as the tail boundary of Kollam Municipal Corporation. Inhabitants belong to working and middle classes.

Sree Narayana Polytechnic College (Malayalam: ശ്രീ നാരായണ പോളിടെക് നിക്ക് is located in Kottiyam near Kollam, Kerala in southern India. It is named after the Saint and social reformer "Sree Narayana Guru". SNPTC was founded in 1957, by the Sree Narayana Trusts, Kollam under the initiative of the secretary, the late Sri.R.Sankar, former chief minister of Kerala. In the period 2006–07, the college celebrated its Golden Jubilee.
