Elections in Montana |
---|
The 2024 Montana House of Representatives election was held on November 5, 2024, alongside the 2024 United States elections. [1]
This was the first election under new legislative lines adopted by an independent, bipartisan commission in 2023. [2]
Although Republicans maintained the majority, Democrats gained new seats, and ended Republicans veto-proof supermajority.
In Montana's 2020 Presidential Election, Donald Trump won the 61 House districts, while Joe Biden won 39. Going into the 2024 House elections, Democrats held District 27 in Havre (Trump +16%) and Majority-Minority District 42 in Big Horn County (Trump +2%). Republicans held Districts 41, 46, 57, 60, 91, and 92, where Biden won in 2020. Redistricting created two new competitive districts, 65 and 66 in Gallatin County, both favoring Biden.
Thirty-four incumbents did not seek re-election. [1]
