The 2024 Mesa mayoral election was held on November 5, 2024, to elect the next mayor of Mesa, Arizona. [1] Incumbent Republican mayor John Giles will be term limited and can not run for re-election. [2]
A primary election for candidates were held on July 30, 2024, [3] [4] from which city councilor Mark Freeman and former mayor Scott Smith advanced to a runoff, [5] in which Freeman defeated Smith with 52.9 percent of the vote. [6]

Scott Smith is an American businessman and politician, elected as the 38th mayor of Mesa, Arizona, on May 20, 2008. He took office on June 2, 2008 and served until April 16, 2014, when he resigned to run for Governor of Arizona in the Republican Primary. In 2013–14, he was president of the United States Conference of Mayors. He was previously president of both Great Western Homes and K. Hovnanian Homes. He has also worked in finance and as a business consultant.

John C. Giles is an American politician serving as the 40th mayor of Mesa, Arizona. A Republican, Giles previously served as a member of the Mesa City Council from 1996 to 2000. Giles was elected mayor of Mesa in a 2014 special election following the resignation of Mayor Scott Smith.
