The 2024 Phoenix mayoral election was held on November 5, 2024, to elect the mayor of Phoenix, Arizona. Incumbent Mayor Kate Gallego ran for reelection as the favored candidate and won reelection in a landslide. [1] A runoff would have been held on March 11, 2025, if no candidate received a majority of the vote. The Phoenix City Council is the governing body of the city of Phoenix, Arizona. The council is made up of nine members, including a mayor and eight council members representing individual districts. While the mayor is elected in a citywide election, city council members are elected by votes only in the districts they represent, with both the mayor and council members serving four year terms.
Rubén Marinelarena Gallego is an American politician serving since 2025 as the junior United States senator from Arizona. A member of the Democratic Party, Gallego served from 2015 to 2025 as the U.S. representative for Arizona's 3rd congressional district. He was also a member of the Arizona House of Representatives, where he was assistant minority leader from 2012 until he resigned to run for Congress. Gallego was first elected to Congress in 2014. His district included most of southern, western, and downtown Phoenix and part of Glendale.
