Elections in Wisconsin |
---|
The 2024 Milwaukee mayoral election was held on April 2, 2024, concurrent with other elections during Wisconsin's spring elections, to elect the mayor of Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Incumbent Mayor Cavalier Johnson sought re-election. Johnson won in the largest landslide victory since the 2008 Milwaukee mayoral election. [1]
Municipal elections in Wisconsin are nonpartisan. Despite this, all candidates in this election are part of the Democratic Party. This is the first election for this office in which all candidates are African American.
Johnson was elected in 2022 after serving as an acting mayor. Mayor Johnson was criticized by certain groups for his "downtown interests" and failure to address the issues of suburban voters. [2] Even though Johnson had backlash from certain voting blocs, Johnson was able to tout a stark decrease in crime in Milwaukee — which has been considered one of the most dangerous cities in America.
