National Highway 8 is a 4-lane National Highway in India. According to estimates, it is the busiest highway in the subcontinent, as it connects the national capital Delhi to the financial capital Mumbai, as well as important cities Gurgaon, Jaipur, Ajmer, Udaipur, Ahmedabad, Kheda, Nadiad, Anand, Vadodara, Surat, The total length is 1428km. Under the new numbering it has become part of the NH48.
National Highway 4 was a major National Highway before National Highway renumbering in Western and Southern India. NH 4 linked four of the 10 most populous Indian cities – Mumbai, Pune, Bangalore, and Chennai. On 28 April 2010, the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways officially notified the rationalized number system of the national highway network in the Gazette of the Government of India. It is a systematic numbering scheme based on the orientation and the geographic location of the highway. This was adopted to ensure more flexibility and consistency in the numbering of existing and new national highways. According to the system all north–south oriented highway will have even numbers increasing from the east to the west. Similarly all east–west oriented highways will be odd numbered increasing from the north to the south of the country.
National Highway 3, or Old national NH 3, commonly referred to as the Agra–Bombay Road or just Agra Road in Bombay, was a major Indian National Highway that ran through the states of Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh and Maharashtra in India. National Highway 83 was a former National Highway in India entirely within the state of Bihar. NH 83 linked state capital, Patna to Dobhi on former National Highway 2 and passed through Jehanabad, Gaya and Bodhgaya. The total length of NH 83 was about 130 km (81 mi). After renumbering of national highways, new National Highway 83 is now located in the state of Tamil Nadu.
National Highway 1A was a National Highway in North India that connected the Kashmir valley to Jammu and the rest of India. The northern terminal was in Uri in Jammu and Kashmir and the southern terminal was in Jalandhar. Stretches of old NH 1A ran through some extremely treacherous terrain and shut-offs because of avalanches or landslides common in Winter months. The famous Jawahar Tunnel that connects Jammu with the Kashmir Valley across the Pir Panjal Range falls en route. The total length of NH 1A was 663 km.

National Highway 69A, was a National Highway in India that ran entirely within the state of Madhya Pradesh. The western terminal was in Multai and the eastern terminal was in Seoni. The length of the highway NH 69 A was 158 km.

NH-29 runs across the Indian states of Assam, Nagaland and end at the border of Manipur. This national highway is 338.5 km (210.3 mi) long.

Before renumbering of national highways, NH-46 was variously numbered as old national highways 3, 12 & 69.
